ADOLESCENTS AND YOUNG ADULTS (ages 16 to 24)
Although parents frequently make the initial contact on behalf of their teenage or young adult child it is usual, after a brief conversation to gain some understanding of the situation, for me to ask the young person to call me themselves to discuss whether they would like to set up an appointment.
I am sensitive to the anxiety that parents experience when there are concerns around a young person and my approach is always to encourage the young person to communicate with parents whilst respecting their need for a confidential and non-judgemental space. Where appropriate, and if the young person feels comfortable, I facilitate sessions between a young person and their adults.
As a qualified online practitioner I am able to offer telephone or video cam sessions. This can be particularly helpful in maintaining continuity and protective support when a young person is away from home at university.
Initial consultation appointments are for 1 hour 20 minutes with a fee of £160. Ongoing therapy sessions are arranged at the same time and day each week and last 50 minutes with a fee of £135. I offer some concessionary spaces were appropriate.
Familiar issues that present are social anxiety, managing ASD and ADHD, adoption, illness and disability in the family, loss/bereavement, family breakdown, low mood, depression, friendship and peer difficulties, gender, sexuality and sexual identity. However, this list is not exhaustive and can mean different things in different contexts.
